For reasons I can't explain, I love the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I always had Haruhi or Mikuru on my mental list of possible cosplays but when my friend Joe mentioned that he would cosplay as Kyon AND pay for fabric if I did it with him, I couldn't refuse.

Unfortunately, this decision was made nearly a week before Anime Iowa and things had to be put together quickly. I made Kyon's jacket in two days - lined in baby pink fabric per request. XD Haruhi's outfit caused more trouble than I anticipated because I worked without patterns but it all came together in the end. The skirt was a result of a lot of guess work and the collar is almost completelly held together with Heat n' Bond. (My new treasure!) Because of time constraints, the wig was styled from a long, blonde, curly wig which was straightened and colored with brown sharpies by hand. The shirt was once a turtleneck with a modified collar and the cuffs are attached with snaps.

Although I'm much more like Mikuru, I REALLY like cosplaying as Haruhi, especially with Joe. It's fun being able to verbally abuse him and break out into dance upon request! The costume itself is tragically unflattering on me (hello fat legs!) but I still like it all the same.
