My Hermione costume will always hold a special place in my heart. I am OBSESSED with Harry Potter and having my own set of Hogwarts robes was one of my inspirations for getting into cosplay in the first place. In fact, when I was 11 years old I wrote in my journal that one of my dreams would be to play Hermione in the movie. XD I am quite the nerd!

This costume ended up going through 4 stages. The first was a simple shirt, tie, and skirt I picked up from the thrift store which I wore to the book release. The second version was made when Cosplaylab announced they were having a Hermione look-a-like contest and I finally had an excuse to make the robes and sweater. My mom actually made me the robes (I did not know how to sew yet) and the sweater was a plain gray sweater from Old Navy with ribbon attached to the front. I didn't win the contest but it was worth it to finally have my own set of robes!

The thrid version was made after learning that my dorm-mate Zach (Strippervash) was planning to see the movie in costume with a group of friends. I agreed to go with him and upgraded the costume to have more of a Goblet of Fire feel with a new sweater, altered robes, and new tie. Although the costume was poorly constructed, I had SO much fun wandering the streets of Chicago with 12 other people in Hogwarts robes and it ended up being one of my favorite cosplay memories! We were even on the news a couple of times which is always fun!

The final version of the costume was made for the Half-Blood Prince book release. This time, I completley remade the robes out of black linen and fully lined them without a pattern. (Which only took me a day!) I finally coughed up the money for an offical tie and sweater and simply found a matching skirt. I wore the costume to the final book release in Oak Park and had an incredible time. I was lucky enough to get a photoshoot by Darkain and can now say with confidence that I am proud of this costume. I'm not sure when I'll wear it again but I hope I get the chance one day!
