If you say you have never seen Sailor Moon you’re a dirty, filthy liar and are now banned from my site. Like many of you, my first anime was Sailor Moon and I’ve loved it ever since I pretended to be Sailor Venus at recess in 2nd grade. For my first cosplay, I wanted to go as a character I was familiar with so it seemed only natural to go as one of the characters I knew and loved best. And through an intricate series of decisions, I was dubbed Jupier. (Because I have brown hair…complex, I know!) However, instead of going as the scouts original fukus, our group decided that we wanted to be a bit more unique. We decided to do their manga dresses which, at the time, were VERY rare so we thought it would be a cool challenge to complete them for ourselves.

The dress was made entirely by my Mom and is completely lined in cream fabric and is really pretty. My friends’ dresses were also beautiful and we wore our completed dresses to our first con, Acen 2003. Of course, we were big n00bz and expected EVERYONE to know who we were cosplaying as (we have rainbow dresses, thus we MUST be Sailor Moon characters! Durrrr.) but unfortunately, only two people recognized us and it deflated our egos in a snap. Kind of harsh for a first cosplay experience.

However, since then, the dresses have become very popular and I’ve had many opportunities to wear it since! It’s truly amazing how much things can change in 3 short years. At this past Acen I was lucky enough to be involved in a BEAUTIFUL group of scouts that every Sailor Moon cosplayer dreams about. I got to meet a lot of really amazing girls and had a great time!

I keep trying to put Princess Jupiter into retirement but it keeps slapping me in the face and coming right back. You sassy thing, you.

The coolest part about this costume is getting to see how I've progressed throughout the years. Although the costume hasn't changed at all, I definitely have. Try to guess which pictures are new and which are old...it's fun, I swear..!
