To be honest, cosplaying Lust started off as a bit of a joke. My friend at the time was just getting into Fullmetal Alchemist and made a comment about wanting to cosplay Envy. I, like the nerd I am, immediately got excited about this potential costume but because he had never been to a con before and had never shown an interest in cosplay. I told him I would make his costume and he said that he would only cosplay if I did it with him. I laughed and joked that I would go Lust becuase of my breast size but really didn't think too much of it - I just wanted an excuse to make his costume!

The top 3 reasons why I was afraid to attempt this costume full-force was 1) I was unsure of how to attach the gloves to the sleeves + dress, 2) I had no idea how to make the nails, and 3) I figured I couldn't pull it off - its LUST afterall! However, once I got to work on the costume, my perfectionist nature kicked in and I suddenly started taking the project more seriously. After all, if I fail and it ends up looking bad in the end, at least I tried right? I had never done a costume as "sexy" as Lust before and her character was outside my typical "SUPER KAWAII DESU!" comfort zone but the more I worked on the outfit, the more I started to believe that I could pull it off.

The dress was made using a vogue bridal pattern and the sleeves were lenghtened significantly so that they could drape over my hands (to become the gloves later). I altered the top to make it a bit more revealing and used flesh-colored spandex to attach to the palms of the gloves, making the dress and gloves all one piece. I was surprised how easily everything came together and found it to be much easier than I anticipated. The naills were made from strong posterboard and glaze and attach using individual finger "slips" made from the black and flesh-colored glove fabric. The tattoo was made with tattoo paper from Tattoo Johnny (which I HIGHLY recommend!) and the wig was purchased from ebay. In the end, I'm pretty proud of this costume and did a much better job on it than I did on the Envy costume, I think. I don't like wearing it so much because of the obvioius head -> BOOBS! stares but I feel strangely pretty wearing it either way!
I have lost some weight (about 15lbs) since making this costume and, unfortunately, it's in retirment until I'm able to alter the dress accordingly. It was fun while it lasted though!
