I have absolutely no idea how I ended up cosplaying Sumomo. Originally, I was planning on going as Dita but for one reason or another, I ended up switching to Sumomo at the last minute (which was probably a good call) but the costume and everything associated with it was a complete nightmare.

There were no patterns that matched Sumomo’s bodysuit exactly and I chose inappropriate, non-stretchy fabric (WTF) which made everything that much more difficult. This costume, like the one before it, was made almost the night before Acen and had lots and lots of problems. Because of the stiffness of the fabric, a zipper had to be inserted into the back and the entire suit never fit properly after that. The pants were easy enough but my Mom and I underestimated how much fabric we would need for the pants so we ended up having to add more later on which left them looking a bit ghetto. The sleeves…I cringe thinking about. The way the bodysuit was constructed left it impossible for the sleeves to have a poof so instead, the bottoms of the sleeves had to be held up with safety pins to give the illusion of a poof. Yeah… The scarf and bow were very cute though even though everything was held together using snaps and safety pins. You wonder why this costumes’ retired?

Then to make matters worse, our Chii and Freya were unable to join us and that left my Kotoko, Hideki, and I to wander around alone. Anywho, we still had fun but it really wasn't what we had hoped for without our other friends.

It sounds like Sumomo was nothing but bad but it’s not like that at all. This past year, Kayla, Shelly, and I finally got to dress up together for a photoshoot so Sumomo has finally served its purpose and can be retired in peace.
